For 3 consecutive years we traveled for a week in a summer immersive program with 6 to 8 families exploring the indigenous way of living. We fully immersed ourselves in the everyday practices as we participated in a tailored made workshops about indigenous medicine, the Maya language and even a soccer tournament. 

 As a result of this encounter, we built a clinic for the indigenous women in Chemax, Yucatan. We maintain a close relationship with the Cooperativa U Najil Ek Balam.

Juana María Pol Kinil is a Mayan woman who lives in the community of Uspibil, which at the beginning of the 20th century had 19 inhabitants. Uspibil is located in the municipality of Chemax (Yucatan, Mexico).

She is a Mayan traditional doctor, midwife, nurse, and activist. Leader of "The Awakening of the Women who Heal," an organization of midwives in the Orient of Yucatan, Mexico. Juanita has dedicated her life to helping others with her gift of healing.

Juanita is descendant of midwives, on the side of mother and father. A long tradition of women healers who survive, in resistance, until the present. He decided to change his life when he could no longer do it: "How about it really kills you," his mother told him, referring to the husband who was preying on his daughter. And Juanita thought, "if you do not value yourself, who will value you". She began to be present in his own life and gave value to his history, to the tradition of which he is a part, that of the women who heal.

TONALIDADES DE LA SIERRA (EarthTones) es un programa, que nace de relaciones cercanas con las comunidades indígenas de la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, a lo largo de muchos años y varias generaciones.

Esta experiencia extraordinaria es el resultado de un proceso para conmemorar los 500 años de relaciones interculturales.

Viajamos como encargados de emisarios prehispánicos. Estos silbátos de cerámica, según los Mamos, son mensajeros de un tiempo ancestral. Viajar a la Sierra para este momento histórico, nos invita a fraguar el futuro de las relaciones interculturales y reflexionar sobre cómo podemos servir para los próximos 500 años.
